Open Board Positions: The seats of two Planning Board members will expire in December.

There also is a current vacancy on the Public Safety Advisory Committee.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must be 21 or older and be permanent residents of Weddington.

Waxhaw

Volunteer Positions Open: The Town of Waxhaw is still seeking one volunteer to serve on the Historic Commission and as many as would like to apply to the Comprehensive Plan Committee.

If you would like to be considered for a committee, complete the volunteer application found at the town website, www.waxhaw.com or stop by the Town Clerk Bonnie McManus' office at Town Hall.

Blakeney

Run for sports: The Big South Conference will hold its second annual 5K Road Race at 8 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Blakeney Shopping Center. All funds raised go to middle school athletics programs. Last year's event raised $10,000 for schools in Mecklenburg and Union counties. Online registration, www.BigSouth5K.com. The entry fee is $20 for Registered runners by Sept. 30; $25 after Sept. 30. Runners can also sign up on race day.

Help for parents: Charlotte Christian School will host a free parent education seminar featuring Vicki Courtney, national speaker and author, titled "Logged On and Tuned Out: A non-techie's guide to parenting a tech-savvy generation."
