Designer show house: The 2011 March of Dimes Designer Show House will be on display 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 7-8 and Oct. 14-15 and 1-6 p.m. Oct. 9 and 16.. The 9,800-square-foot Georgian-style home in Eastover has five bedrooms, eight baths, a saltwater pool and outside terrace. Eighteen of the home's rooms are being furnished and decorated by Charlotte's leading design firms.

Delays: Renovations to Squirrel Lake Park in Matthews are two months behind schedule. In August, the board granted ECON Construction a 45-day contract extension until Sept. 27, but the work still isn't finished.
When completed, Squirrel Lake Park will have restrooms, a picnic shelter, asphalt in the parking lot, trails to connect to Four Mile Creek Greenway, a playground with swings, a pier, benches and trash receptacles. Half the $787,000 project is being paid for by a N.C. Parks and Recreation Trust Fund.
Family service day: Bright Blessings, a nonprofit organization serving homeless children and families, will host a Family Service Day on Oct. 10. Children and their parents are invited to visit the nonprofit's Giving Village to "Fill a Fun Box" and create a birthday gift for a local homeless child.
