Charlotte Christian

Free teacher workshop: Charlotte Christian will host a free workshop for directors of area preschools and their teachers designed to guide teachers as they prepare for parent conferences. The workshop is entitled "Free Facelift - How to Change Your View of Parent Conferences from Dread to Joy." The event will be held 1 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Early Education building. National Merit Semifinalist: Senior Ryan Potocnik has been named a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship program.

Charlotte Catholic

Congratulations: Michael Richards, a Charlotte Catholic student, recently earned his Eagle Scout Rank in Boy Scouts. Ian Flyke, Melanie Runkle and Adam Schexnayder, also Charlotte Catholic students, have been nominated for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship to UNC Chapel Hill.

Charlotte Latin

Open house: There will be a parent information meeting for those thinking about enrolling their children at Charlotte Latin. TK and Kindergarten's open house will be today at 7 p.m. TK through grade 12 will have an open house 9:30 a.m. Nov. 1. Reserve a spot with the admissions office at 704-846-7207.

East Mecklenburg

National Achievement: Andrey Orichi-Socana, Justin Perry and Branford Wilkins were named National Achievement Scholarship semifinalists out of only 13 in CMS. They are among 1,600 black high school seniors across the country who will compete for the Achievement Scholarship awards worth $2.4 million.

Myers Park High

National Achievement: Jamie McGhee was named a National Achievement Scholarship semifinalist out of only 13 in CMS.

Providence High

PSAT: Sophomores will take the PSAT Oct. 12. These scores determine which students become National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists.

National Achievement: Alex Marcel was named a National Achievement Scholarship semifinalist out of only 13 in CMS.

Providence Day

Athlete of the week: Junior Bryon Fields, a member of the Providence Day School football varsity team, was voted the Power 98 POWERADE Athlete of the Week for week number five. He was nominated for his performance in the Sept. 16 home gave against Porter Ridge High in which he had eight tackles, one pass interception and a 76-yard punt return.

South Meck

IYC campaign: As of Sept. 22, South Meck has raised $18,873 toward the Invest In Your Child campaign, which goes toward support for faculty and staff at SMHS, enabling them to be more effective and efficient in teaching.

1986 Class Reunion: The 25th year reunion of Class of 1986 is being held 6:30-11:30 Oct. 22. Contact Monique Niederer Davis at mnd9807@gmail.com to RSVP or for information.

Fundraisers

Loaves and Fishes: Valeriano Orthodontics is having a "Back to School" contest to benefit Loaves and Fishes and our local schools. Students and parents are asked to bring donations of non-perishable food items to the office of Dr. Valeriano, 7812 Fairview Road. At the end of the contest the school with the most points will be awarded a Smart Board or check for $2,500. All food donations will be forwarded to Loaves & Fishes. The contest runs through Nov. 30.

Ghost Walk: Scott Clark Toyota will hold its second 3-D Ghost Walk in October to raise funds for local elementary school's PTAs. For $5 children will gain entry to the ghost walk, receive a bag of candy, hot dog and a drink. Last year, more than $12,000 was raised for eight elementary schools. This year's goal is $100,000.
