Pineville

Service hours: The Civic and Cultural Arts Center of Pineville has volunteer opportunities for students. The center will have a tent at the upcoming Pineville Fall Festival on Oct. 15 and could use some student volunteers. There are also ongoing opportunities. Eastover

Designer house: The 2011 March of Dimes Designer Show House will be on display Oct. 7-9 and Oct. 14-16; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1-6 p.m. Sunday. The 9,800-square-foot Georgian-style home in Eastover has five bedrooms, eight baths and a saltwater pool. Eighteen of the home's rooms are being decorated by Charlotte design firms. South Charlotte

Free home repairs: In partnership with Operation Homefront of North Carolina, Home Depot will award two Charlotte families of a deployed or injured service member, assistance with home repairs, appliance repair or replacement, painting or landscaping. Home Depot will award up to $5,000 per project. Families must be nominated by someone familiar with the applicant's military status and home situation.
