The Carolina BrewMasters have come together to produce this annual event on Oct. 8 at The Metrolina Tradeshow Expo. Ticket holders will receive a collectible Charlotte Oktoberfest tasting glass, a selection of samples from more than 350 craft brewed beers from the Southeast and around the world and a souvenir event guide with a map. Enjoy live entertainment, games and plenty of food vendors. The Charlotte Oktoberfest provides a great opportunity to make a difference. Over the festival's 12 years, the Carolina BrewMasters have donated more than $280,000 to local charities. Event runs from 2-7 p.m. on the expo's lawn. Jim Alexander's Zebra recently celebrated 10 years in the business and is planning for 10 more. A Riedel stemware show and tasting hosted by Natalie Meetze of Fine Wine Trading will be happening here on Oct. 13. Price is $25 per guest and includes a tutored wine tasting. Guests will also learn how the shape of a glass impacts their wine experience. Wine selections for the evening include: Nelson Bay Sauvignon Blanc, 2010 from New Zealand; Frank Family Vineyards Chardonnay, 2009 from Napa Valley; and Slingshot Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007 from Napa Valley. Call for reservations as seating is limited. Fridays take advantage of weekly tastings from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tastings are informal and include light hors d'oeuvres for $10.
