Open house/mixer: In an effort to reach out to the Latin business community, the Matthews Chamber is hosting a Latin American Open House/Mixer from 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 13 at El Quincho Restaurant, 131 E. Code enforcement officer: Carlo McKoy has joined the town as a part-time code enforcement officer. He will work with citizens and business owners during the day, evening and on weekends when necessary. Carlo is a native of North Carolina and has a degree in accounting from N.C. Central University. He earned a master's in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a certified public accountant.
Performance set: Matthews Playhouse of the Performing Arts will present "The Miracle Worker," Oct. 14-23, at Matthews Community Center, 100 McDowell St. The play is the true story of Helen Keller, an Alabama girl struck blind and deaf as a baby, and teacher Annie Sullivan. The Oct. 20 performance features sign-language interpreters and a talkback with the actors. Special seating for the hearing impaired can be reserved by calling the box office. Bus routes: The Charlotte Area Transit System has adjusted several bus routes. The changes include:
43 Ballantyne: New Saturday service will operate 8:56 a.m.-9:20 p.m., providing a connection to employment opportunities and access to retail establishments at Ballantyne Commons and Ballantyne Village.
57 Archdale/SouthPark: The weekday service will operate one additional late night inbound and outbound trip between Forest Point Circle and the LYNX Archdale Station.
61X Arboretum Express: Morning trips will be extended to serve the Valerie C. Woodard Center.
