Restaurant news: Don't be afraid to try Halloween specials

Rooster's

On Nov. 3, Rooster's presents an evening with Highland Brewing Company, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Courses include fish and chips with malt vinegar aioli paired with Kashmir India Pale Ale, Harmony Ridge Farms sweet potato gnocchi with turkey sugo and spiced nuts, paired with Gaelic Ale and espresso crusted wild antelope with chestnut puree and Brussels sprouts leaves, paired with Wine Barrel Aged Porter. Don't forget dessert: a poached apple with pink lady fritters and mascarpone fritters served with Highland's Thunder Struck Coffee Porter. A limited Barrel Aged Oatmeal Porter will also be a highlight. Cost per person, $50 plus tax and gratuity; reservations are required, 704-366-8688.

Star Deli is now open on Conlan Circle in Ballantyne. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, Star offers mile-high New York-style deli sandwiches, traditional Italian sandwiches, soups (including Matzo Ball daily) and a large selection of baked goods like butter cookies and rugalach. Arooji's

Arooji's Wine Room in Ballantyne is running two entrees and two glasses of wine for $50 Sunday through Tuesday. Wine tastings happen every Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.; Wednesdays, select wines are half off. The SouthPark location is offering three courses for $30: salad, entrée and dessert.

Duke Mansion

Chef Harrison Booth cooks gourmet Halloween fare at Duke Mansion's Halloween Costume Party and Haunted Mansion on Oct. 28. The annual fundraiser for the preservation of the mansion includes Halloween-themed food, music by the Bad Daddies and an auction. Guests can bid on art, Panthers tickets, trips and more throughout the evening. Samplings from the menu: pumpkin squash soup served in the "great pumpkin," baked sea scallops with a parsley walnut breadcrumb crust, cinnamon sugar pumpkin spice donuts and late night snacks.
