Butler High

Teddy bear collection: On behalf of Celebrity Charity Wishes, Butler will host a donation location for ask students to participate in giving new teddy bears for the "Bears for Buddies" charitable program for terminally ill children. The donation box will be located in the main office for drop-offs through Nov. 4. This year's beneficiaries are Levine Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte. They are hoping to give 500 bears to each facility.

Beverly Woods Elementary

Open house: Beverly Woods Elementary School is hosting an open house for new and prospective parents at 9:45 a.m., Nov. 3 at 6001 Quail Hollow Road. There will be an information session followed by a tour, 980-343-3627.

Charlotte Christian

Scholarship winners: Charlotte Christian seniors Amanda Hudgins and Kevin Ramsey were selected as the 2011 recipients of the Jennifer Hendrick and Kimberly Hendrick Memorial Scholarships. Cathy Hendrick established the two scholarships in 2005 in memory and honor of her twin daughters, both Charlotte Christian graduates, who died in an airplane accident in 2004. Hudgins and Ramsey were nominated for the scholarships by teachers and staff. The scholarships provide this year's tuition at Charlotte Christian.

Charlotte Country Day

Halloween parade: Families are invited to the 63rd annual Halloween Parade to watch the Lower School children march around campus in costume 8:30 a.m., Oct. 28. In case of rain, children will celebrate in their classrooms. Overflow parking is available at St. John's Episcopal Church.

Goddard School

Fall fest: The Goddard School, for ages 6 weeks to 6 years, located in Indian Trail, will hold a Fall Festival and Children's Expo 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 29 at the school, 1004 Harvest Red Road. The event will feature activities for preschool children and their families including a pumpkin patch, crafts and games and a train. Family-friendly vendors will also be present. Children and parents are encouraged to come in costume. School tours will also be available, 704-289-8103.

Myers Park High

Pops concert: The Fall Pops Concert is 7 p.m. today in the school auditorium. Bring your popcorn and soda and join the Myers Park High School choruses for the annual concert of pop tunes. Free concert: The Myers Park Marching Band will join the Myers Park Band Ensembles for a music concert at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 3 in the auditorium, 2400 Colony Road.

South Meck High

Visit from Miss USA: As part of the homecoming week celebration, students had the opportunity to hear from Miss United States 2011, Ashley Smith. The South Meck student government organized the "There's a Winner in You" event Oct. 13. Students gave motivating and inspiring musical and dance performances associated with the theme and Smith discussed at three-step plan with students for being a winner in life.
