New leaders: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education approved Paula Jane Rao to lead Greenway Park Elementary and Charles J. Fortuna II to lead Elon Park Elementary. Both new principals earned a master's degree in educational leadership through Winthrop University in the Leaders for Tomorrow program that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools helped design as a district leadership pipeline.

South Meck High

New lab: Local green business leaders, students and staff of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Hands On Charlotte volunteers will install a hi-tech outdoor classroom, the Eco Learning Lab at South Mecklenburg High 11 a.m. Nov. 19. The lab, the first in CMS, consists of a freestanding demonstration green roof (at ground level), a water catchments system, a photovoltaic array with seven different solar panels from various manufacturers, a weather station, a greenhouse and a computerized monitoring system. The learning lab is open to all CMS students through science, technology engineering and math programs.

Matthews

Holiday time: Breakfast with Santa will be held Saturday, Dec. 10 and Saturday, Dec. 17 at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Ages: 2-8; $5 per person. Enjoy breakfast and make holiday crafts. SouthPark

Ballet benefit: Charlotte City Ballet Company and Pottery Barn Kids will hold their 4th annual Nutcracker event to benefit St Jude Children's Hospital at 9 a.m., Dec. 10, in SouthPark Mall.
