Ardrey Kell state runner-up; Latin finishes 1 point short of title

Ardrey Kell and Charlotte Latin once again proved to be among the state's best girls' cross country teams this year.

The Ardrey Kell girls team won the 4A West Regional meet and finished as the state runner-up.

The Charlotte Latin girls were the NCISAA state runner-up, finishing just one point short of their fifth straight state title.

Runner of the year: Kaitlyn Kramer, Ardrey Kell - This year, Kramer capped her standout career with a third straight SW4A individual cross country championship. Kramer, the 2010 regional and state runner-up, also finished strong with a fifth-place finish at regionals and 10th at states this season.

Kramer edged out her own teammate, Sydney Foreman, for the South Charlotte News Girls' Runner of the Year.

Coach of the Year: Brian Zelk, Ardrey Kell - Brian Zelk and the Ardrey Kell girls' cross country team had a banner year in 2010, winning the SW4A and 4A West Regional championships.

This year, the Knights were just as good if not better as they repeated as SW4A conference and regional champions and came up just short at states as the 4A runner-up.

Zelk has a lot of talent returning with sophomore Sydney Foreman and junior twin sisters Samantha and Sydney Teague back next season.
