Bake sale for cancer: The fourth annual Cookies for Kids' Cancer Bake Sale will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 3 and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 4 at Blackhawk Hardware in Park Road Shopping Center.

Village Christmas Shoppe: The Mint Hill Historical Society presents The Village Christmas Shoppe in the historic Surface Hill Assay Office at the Carl J. McEwen Historic Village, 7601 Matthews Mint Hill Road.
The shop will be open 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Dec. 2-3 and noon-9 p.m. Dec. 7-10.

A Christmas Carol: The Friends of the Ethel K. Smith Library at Wingate University will host Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," read by members of Waxhaw's Storefront Theatre. The reading will be 7 p.m. Dec. 16 in the library on campus.

Bluegrass: Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver will perform traditional bluegrass at the Batte Center's McGee Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2.
One of the top mandolin players in bluegrass music since the early days of his career in the 1960s, Lawson incorporated traditional gospel quartet singing into his music after forming his own band, Quicksilver, and honed his unique bluegrass-gospel sound. Lawson is winner of The National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship and has 14 International Bluegrass Music Awards.
