Public meeting: N.C. House Speaker Thom Tillis (R-Mecklenburg) will hold a town hall meeting 5 p.m. Dec. 5 in the auditorium of Central Piedmont Community College's Levine Campus, 2800 Campus Ridge Road (Building LV 1). He will be joined by N.C. Rep. Bill Brawley (R-Mecklenburg) and other area legislators.

Park Road

Digital photos class: The Shepherd's Center of Charlotte is having a Digital Imaging Management and Editing course, 9 a.m.-noon Dec. 5, 7 and 9, hosted by the Southminster Retirement Community, 8919 Park Road. Senior citizen volunteers will teach the class how to load photos into the computer, edit and share them. A comprehensive manual is included. Cost is $25 for the three-day course. Meet Santa: Eat breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus 10:45 a.m. Dec. 17 at the Matthews Community Center, 100 McDowell St. Make holiday crafts and bring a camera to get pictures with Santa. Ages 2-8. Bryant Farms Road

Advent performance: South Mecklenburg Presbyterian's Chancel Choir will perform "Gloria" by Antonio Vivaldi, 6 p.m. Dec. 4 in the church's sanctuary, accompanied by string quartet, oboe and trumpet. The program also includes "Variations on Adeste Fideles" by Marcel Dupre for organ, and an additional choral piece. Cost is free, and a light reception will follow. 8601 Bryant Farms Road. Details:

Ballantyne Commons

Annual gala: The Morrison YMCA's annual Inspire!Ballantyne Gala will be 7-11 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Ballantyne Hotel and Lodge, 10000 Ballantyne Commons Parkway. The semi-formal evening includes hors d'oeuvres, entertainment and a charity auction for the 2011 Community Support Campaign, which helps under-served children in east Charlotte neighborhoods. Cost is $40 for individuals, $75 couple or $500 for a VIP table. Details:

Ballantyne Corporate Park

Building ceremony: Bissell Development held a "Topping Out" Ceremony Nov. 18 to mark the completion of steel framework for the Woodward Building, a new 10-story, 275,000-square-foot office building in Ballantyne Corporate Park. Named in honor of Dr. and Mrs. James H. Woodward, the building is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
