If you are in downtown Matthews, check out the winners of the second annual gingerbread house competition on display in the Matthews Depot, 210 Matthews Station Street, through the end of this week.
The contest, a part of Hometown Holidays, was sponsored by the Matthews Alive! Foundation.
One entrant, 3-year-old Maddie Friedlander, part of the first-place family entry winner, isn't ready for construction to stop.
"She'll still wake up and say, 'Can we work on the gingerbread house?' " said her mother, Nathalie Friedlander.

While Maddie and 20-month-old sister Ella spent much of their time tasting candy, their mother says they managed to stick some of the sweets on houses.
The project took about two weeks with a little work each day.
And they are already looking forward to next year's contest.
