Selected for prestigious game: Paul Griggs, a senior kicker at Charlotte Latin, was told several months ago that he had been selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He is believed to be the first private-school football player from N.C. to be chosen to play in the bowl. The game, which includes 90 of the nation's top high school players, will take place on Jan. 7 at the Alamodome in San Antonio and will be broadcast live on NBC at 1 p.m. Unfortunately, Griggs will not be playing as he is recovering from knee surgery, but he will still make the trip to San Antonio and participate in a players' banquet.
