Honored teacher remembered: Florence Chapman, a Charlotte Country Day teacher for 26 years, recently passed away at the age of 92. She retired from her position as Science Lab Manager, media assistant, advisor to students and varsity swim coach at age 85. Chapman was such a beloved teacher that the Upper School Lab Prep area was dedicated to her in 2008. She and her children also established the Florence Radcliffe Clauss Chapman Faculty Appreciation Endowment in 2004. Her memorial service was held Dec. 19.

Musical theater needs funds: For the second year in a row, the Musical Theater Competition Team has qualified to compete at the National Musical Theater Finals to be held in Los Angeles. To offset the cost of the competition and travel, a matching funds grant has been established by a CCHS parent who will match dollar for dollar all contributions up to $500. If you would like to support these talented and dedicated students in their quest, please send your check made out to CCHS to the attention of Lonnie Billard.

Former band director receives honor: Michael Soltys, a retired East Mecklenburg band director, has been inducted induction into the North Carolina Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame.
