Writing workshop: The Charlotte Writer's Club is offering a six-session workshop on writing your life story or past memories, 2-4 p.m. Wednesdays Jan. 18-Feb. 15 at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road. The sessions will be taught by editor and author Margaret G. Bigger. Cost is $72 or $60 for CWC members. This course hopes to help attendees preserve their memories for future generations. Elvis fans: The Elvis Fan Club of Matthews-Mint Hill is inviting all Elvis fans to come celebrate his 77th birthday 7 p.m. Jan. 5 at Jonathan's restaurant, 10630 Independence Pointe Parkway. Elvis tribute artists Chuck Ayers and Matthews Spalding will perform. There also will be some raffle items, including a framed copy of Elvis's karate certificate.

Fine dining: The semiannual Queen's Feast: Charlotte Restaurant Week will make its Winter 2012 outing from Jan. 20 through Jan. 29. This winter's promotion features a record 101 participating restaurants, with the updated website, www. Charlotte Restaurant Week .com , going live Dec. 30, listing the restaurants' special Queen's Feast menus and reservation information. Charlotte Restaurant Week is a metro-area promotion during which upscale restaurants offer a prix fixe, three-course (or more) dinner for $30 per person (not including tax and gratuity).
Restaurants represented in the promotion stretch across many neighborhoods of Charlotte and the area.
The previous Charlotte Restaurant Week in July 2011 generated approximately 90,000 dinners and an estimated economic impact of over $4 million in revenue for the 92 participating restaurants. The Winter 2012 Queen's Feast will feature a dozen first-time restaurant participants.
