Parker Coleman is accustomed to moving around.
Coleman was born in Laurens, S.C., and raised in Charleston.
"I met and married my high school sweetheart, Andrea, in Charleston," Coleman said.
After graduation, Coleman entered the U.S. Marines. He was in the service for 12 years and traveled to Okinawa, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
"I was in both Operation Desert Shield and the subsequent Operation Desert Storm. Can't say I loved the Gulf," Coleman said.
Upon his return to the U.S., the combat veteran was stationed first in North Carolina and then in Georgia, training reservists. During his stint in the military, Coleman became a parent to a son, Parker, now 26, and a daughter, Ashley, 19, currently a student at Central Piedmont Community College.
Andrea lived with the children in Charleston while Coleman was deployed.
"I tried a couple of different jobs when I first got out of the service, then I got a great job with Home Depot. I was with the company for over 10 years," Coleman said.
After a while, Coleman developed an interest in Lowe's.
"I kept hearing good things about Lowe's and finally went to talk to management," he said. "I made the switch three and a half years ago and I'm very happy."
Coleman trained in the Pineville store, then was on the team that opened a new location on South Boulevard. He worked in a Lowe's in Chapel Hill for almost two years, then in the Albemarle Road site and now is at the Lowe's on McMullen Creek Parkway.
His favorite area to work in the store is the specialty departments.
"I like specialized areas, such as flooring, where I am now. It's very satisfying when a customer comes in with a problem and I'm able to help them work it out," Coleman said.
Coleman is a sports fan who follows the Panthers and is especially fond of Steve Smith and Cam Newton.
"I'm a big Steelers fan, though, too," he said. "I watched Terry Bradshaw play, and now I'm enjoying him as an announcer."
Coleman also is a Philadelphia 76ers fan. "I can't help it," he says.
He's also loyal to UNC Chapel Hill. "I just really like watching sports. It's fun and relaxing."
He and his wife also are parents to Jazmine, 4.
"She's the apple of my eye," Coleman says. "Jazmine had a great Christmas. She got it all."
The Coleman's live in the south Charlotte area.
