Senior sports registration starts soon

Registration for the Charlotte Senior Sports men's and women's softball leagues, which play weekly at Park Road Park starting in April, begins Jan. 23.

The Charlotte Senior Sports men's league and the Sassy Softball Sisters league are open to men and women age 45 and older as of Dec. 31 2012. The registration is done individually, not by teams, and teams are formed March 11 to achieve balance in the league.

The men's league would start April 3 and the women's league starts April 5. Last year the league had 240 men and 52 women.

FCCA launches new youth soccer programs

FC Carolina Alliance will launch two new youth soccer programs this spring in the Charlotte area, the Munchkin and Pre-Academy programs for boys and girls ages 4-12.

The programs will provide young soccer players with training through an elite curriculum and professional coaching staff. The Munchkin program, for ages 4-6, focuses on individual skills in a fun and creative learning environment. Pre-Academy, for ages 6-12, focuses on advancing technique, teamwork and communication.
