Piedmont Kennel Club on Choate Circle in Steele Creek near Carowinds will host its annual Cabin Fever Open Show on Jan. 21 with doors opening at 8:30 a.m.

Judging begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Rally Show-N-Go from noon to 3 p.m.


The Neighborhood Energy Challenge (NEC) - Power2 Live Green grant of up to $10,000 is designed to encourage neighborhoods to implement strategies for reducing energy expenses.

The application deadline is Feb. 15.

Neighborhood representatives are required to attend a workshop to be eligible. The next workshop is 6-7 p.m. Jan. 24 at Old City Hall in the Wilmore Room, 600 E. Trade St.

Neighborhood based organizations within the city limits of Charlotte that have been organized and active for at least three months are eligible to apply. Projects include: Alternative Transportation Challenge; Home Energy Audits; Energy Efficient Product Distribution; Energy Efficiency Home Improvement Incentive/Rebate Program; Energy Efficient Lighting Program; Energy Star Appliance Upgrade Program.

Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont will partner with the IRS and the Family Financial Literacy Coalition to provide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance for those who qualify.

The organization will operate the VITA site at its Career Development Center, 2122 Freedom Drive, during the 2011 tax season, which ends April 17. The site will be open by appointment each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 6-9 p.m., and each Saturday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. for walk-ins.
