Carving showcase: The Charlotte Woodcarvers Club is helping sponsor the 29th annual Showcase of Woodcarvings Feb. 17-19 at the Marion Diehl Center, 2219 Tyvola Road. More than 500 carvings will be exhibited. Professional woodcarver Tom Wolfe will host carving competitions. Show is free and open to the public noon-4 p.m. Feb. 18 and 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Feb. 19. The Charlotte Woodcarvers Club meets weekly at Carmel Presbyterian Church's Cathcart Center, 2048 Carmel Road.

Spaghetti luncheon: Anyone interested in learning more about the mission and goals of the Salvation Army's Center of Hope, a women and children's homeless shelter, are invited to attend a spaghetti luncheon 12:15 p.m. Jan. 29 at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, 8601 Bryant Farms Road. Goodwill opening: Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont will celebrate the opening of its newest retail store and donation center, 16025 Lancaster Highway, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Jan. 28, with music, giveaways and other festivities. Dance: The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resource Department is hosting a father-daughter Valentine's Day Dance 4-7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Crews Road Recreational Center, 1201 Crews Road. There will be a DJ, refreshments and a professional photographer. Ages 4 and older. Cost is $10, and tickets are limited. Available at the Matthews Community Center. Cash or check only. Attention teens: Pineville Parks & Recreation is forming a Teen Council, a volunteer organization made up of teens from sixth-12th grades from the Pineville feeder schools. The first meeting will be 5 p.m. Feb. 3; dinner will be served. Teen Council events include: Feb. 3, extreme game night, register by Jan. 25; March 9, DJ spinning tunes, register by Feb. 29; April 27, movie night, register by April 18. Time and place: 7-10 p.m. at the Belle Johnston Community Center/Gym. Cost is $5 for Pineville residents, $7 for guests, includes snacks and drinks. Registration is required to enter the gym. Parents will need to sign teens in and out of these events.
