Matthews

Neighborhood park: The town has purchased 9.13 acres on Rice Road for a new neighborhood park. The property was purchased for $338,000 from the Wake County Board of Education. The town will apply for a state grant that potentially could pay for one-half of the cost of the land. The land previously had been valued at approximately $500,000 but with the recession recent appraisals valued the property at between $335,000 and $341,000. "The sale of the property will allow Wake County Schools to complete projects they have on their books and this gives us a great opportunity to have a park in a much needed location in Matthews," Blodgett continued.

No timeline for construction has been determined at this point.
