Ballantyne Breakfast Club meeting: The third annual "Priorities 2012" meeting, hosted by the Ballantyne Breakfast Club and Ballantyne Chamber of Commerce, will be 9 a.m. Feb. 11 in the Fairway Ballroom of the Ballantyne Hotel and Lodge, 10000 Ballantyne Commons Parkway. Elected officials from the state, county and city along with other leaders from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, the N.C. Department of Transportation, the Charlotte Department of Transportation, the Charlotte Chamber and more will be available to discuss priorities for 2012. Each body of elected officials and organizations will have a designated table. It's recommended that everyone arrive at 8:30 a.m. to network and enjoy free coffee and refreshments, courtesy of the hotel.

Looking for parent leaders: The Charlotte Mecklenburg Drug-Free Coalition wants parent leaders in Mecklenburg County to attend a committee meeting on illegal drugs. The committee wants to show the need for alcohol and drug programs in schools and how parents can help youth stay drug free. Aid to homeless: Bright Blessings, a local nonprofit serving homeless children and families across the Charlotte region, will host its next "Fill a Fun Box" day Feb. 26 at its Matthews facility at 608 Matthews-Mint Hill Road. Four sessions held between 2-5 p.m. Space is limited and reservations are required. The cost to sponsor one Fun Box is $10. Visit or email


Soccer hearing: The next Town Council meeting is 6:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Hut Meeting Facility, 413 Johnston Drive. A hearing will consider a request from Carolina Sportsplex, LLC for a text amendment of the Pineville zoning ordinance to allow a private soccer recreational facility on about 65 acres on Dorman Road.


Opening show: Ballantyne Community Theatre will present "Almost, Maine" by John Cariani at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Feb. 10-25, at the Ballantyne Performing Arts Center, 11318 North Community House Road, Charlotte, 28277.
