CMS: Elon Park Elementary fifth-grader Aditi Jain won the CMS District Spelling Bee on Jan. 30 at the Mint Museum on Randolph Road.

CMS has earned the Energy Star recognition for the planned replacement of Pineville Elementary School.

Charlotte Christian School: Freshman Payton Walker has been named Miss Mecklenburg Outstanding Teen 2012. Payton will represent Mecklenburg County in the June Miss North Carolina Outstanding Teen Pageant.

Greenway Park Elementary: Greenway Park held a Super Bowl Math Party featuring interactive math games. More than 300 students and parents attended the event where students used different math skills in sorting activities, football board games and working with cubes and dice.

Sterling Elementary: Five local chefs recently gave third-grade students lessons on the importance of a healthy diet and how to make nutritious choices as a Chefs Move to School event. Chefs Move is a USDA program.

Sharon Elementary: Students recently presented grade-level projects at the school's annual Halls of Wonder event. Each grade worked to master a specific topic; conservation, electricity, the human body, weather, matter and arctic and Antarctic animals.

Charlotte Latin: Six students received music honors. Seniors John O'Keefe and Kate Player and juniors Connie Zhou and Grace Lowe were selected for the N.C. Western Regional Orchestra. Middle School students Carl Kim and Emily Padgett were selected for the Middle School All-District Band Clinic.
