Indian Land

The Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently presented the Good Citizen Award to Savannah Mary Stroble, daughter of Melvin and Angela Stroble and a senior at the Indian Land High School.

Only one student a year can be honored as a school's DAR Good Citizen. Each recipient receives a Good Citizen pin, certificate and wallet recognition card. This presentation was made by Citizen Committee Chairperson Anne Landini on Jan. 26 at the Dell Webb Library.

Winthrop University's Friends of the Conservatory will host a recital Feb. 17 by organist Louis Shirer, class of 1980.

Shirer, organist at Washington Street United Methodist Church in Columbia, S.C., has spent more than 30 years working as a church musician in the Carolinas, New Jersey and New York.

He holds degrees in organ performance from Winthrop and Westminster Choir College. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. recital, to be held in Byrnes Auditorium, are $15 for adults; $10 for Winthrop faculty/staff; and $5 for students with a Winthrop ID. For more information, call 803-323-2255.


A health and fitness seminar will be held at Peace Moravian Church, 4418 Rea Road, presented by Rick St. George, a physical therapist and a board-certified orthopedic specialist who has a private practice in Charlotte. The first seminar will be held Feb. 13, the topic will be back and leg pain, myths, fallacies and truths. The seminar will be held 7-8 p.m. and is free and open to the public, 704-759-9939.
