Seeds of Hope

Basketball tournament: There will be a three-game, single-elimination basketball tournament at 1 p.m. March 4 at Carolina Courts, 7210 Stinson Hartis Road, Indian Trail.

The divisions are middle school, high school, adult and competitive adult. Other contests include three-point and free-throw contests.

Cost is $40 per team and all proceeds benefit Seeds of Hope, which helps fund education for children in under-served communities. Winners will receive a video camera. The games will be the first team to 21 points or whichever team is ahead after 15 minutes of play. Register by March 3 at and click "tournaments" under the basketball menu item. Carolinas Freedom Foundation

Lacrosse tournament: Myers Park High's women's lacrosse team will sponsor a tournament featuring Myers Park, Charlotte Catholic, Charlotte Country Day and Fort Mill High.

The tournament is March 2-3 at Myers Park High, 2400 Colony Road.

Proceeds will benefit Carolinas Freedom Foundation which promotes patriotism and honors veterans. Details: Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students. Games will be played 4:30, 6 and 7:30 p.m. March 2 and 12, 1:30 and 3 p.m. on March 3.

Sports and Fitness

Document and pound shredding: Shred-it and Energy Sports & Fitness have joined forces to hold a free document shredding event paired with a free R.I.P.P.E.D. class 5:30-7 p.m. Feb. 29 at Energy, 2408 Sardis Road North.

Shred-it will be on hand to accept personal documents to be destroyed in a secure on-site mobile shredder. Limit material to four banker boxes per vehicle. The class is a high-intensity boot-camp style class to build muscle and shed pounds.

Beds for Kids

Donations and volunteers needed: Beds for Kids, which provides beds, bedding and necessary furniture to children and their families, is in need of volunteers and donations. The organization needs twin size bed kits, including a pillow and pillow case, fitted and flat sheet and a blanket. They also need small dressers and dining tables. Easter Seals

Ride Without Limits: Easter Seals will bring their annual 19-hour cycling event, Ride Without Limits, to Charlotte Motor Speedway June2-3 to benefit Easter Seals and Speedway Children's Charities.

Registration opened Feb. 17 and is limited to the first 1,000 registrants. Go online to The event will take place 5 p.m. June 2 to noon June 3. Bicyclists of all physical abilities will ride as many laps as they can on the 1.5 mile oval track under the lights. Center of Hope Fundraiser

Gala for good: The Carolina Business Women and Charlotte Health and Business Networking will host a fundraising gala to benefit the Center of Hope women and children's homeless shelter in Charlotte and Redeemer's Recovery Ranch in Mint Hill.

Outward Bound

Registration open for trail run: Registration is now open for the 2012 N.C. Outward Bound School's River Bound Race Series.

The race series consists of four trail races on March 10, May 19, July 21 and Sept. 22 all held at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Registration and sponsorship proceeds fund scholarships for Charlotte youth, veterans and educators to enjoy Outward Bound adventures. Details:
