The Crown Jewels

Fundraiser success: The Crown Jewels Chapter of the Links hosted their eighth annual Mardi Gras Gala with more than 400 attendees Feb. 18 at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte.

The event raised $5,000 for the Harvey B. Gantt Center, $5,000 for Johnson C. Smith University Scholarship Fund, and funds for an area high school student scholarship. The Links Inc. is a nonprofit international civic organization of more than 10,000 women of color committed to enhancing the quality of life in our communities. Presbyterian Cancer Center

Named top fundraiser: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk Awards Celebration named Presbyterian Cancer Center the Top Statewide Fundraising Team for blood cancer research and patient services. The team raised more than $47,000. Two thousand Charlotte area residents turned out for the 13th annual Light The Night Walk on Oct. 22 at Symphony Park with teams of co-workers, families and friends coming out to help build awareness about the more than one million people in North American living with a blood cancer.
