Myers Park High

Date change: There is a change to dates for the “Parenting Teens with Love and Logic” classes.

The dates are Sept. 9, 23, 30 and Oct. 7. The class will not be held Sept. 16 due to the school’s fall open house.

Providence Day

Book award: Lucie Smul has won a Wellesley College Book Award. The recipients are selected on the basis of academic and community leadership, intelligence, determination and achievement.

Quail Hollow Middle

Girls track: The track team will host a Girls on Track program this fall beginning Sept. 22 and meeting Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-6 pm. Registration and details:

Community House Middle

School events: Curriculum nights will be 7:45 p.m. Sept. 16 for sixth grade and 7:45 p.m. Sept. 17 for seventh and eighth grades.

Park Road Montessori

School events: Back to School Night will be 6-8 p.m. Sept. 4 in the school auditorium.

Polo Ridge Elementary

School events: Curriculum nights will be Sept. 9 for grades K-2 and Sept. 11 for grades three through five. Thirty-minute presentations on both nights will be 5:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m., with a 15-minute PTA presentation at 6 p.m.

Charlotte Prep

Social Media conference: “Connected, Disconnected or in Danger: Helping Kids Navigate the Awesome and Awful of Social Media” will be offered from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 19 at Sardis House, 6100 Sardis Road.

Debate tutorial: All high school students are invited to the Myers Park High School Novice Debate Tutorial from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 6.

In addition, parents are welcome for a Debate Judge training at 11 a.m. The workshop is led by Myers Park teachers. The cost is $15 per student and includes lunch. Details and registration:

ACT scores: CMS saw increases in 2014 in composite scores on the ACT at more than half the high schools in the district. In addition, scores increased in English, reading and science, with scores in math seeing a slight drop.
