American Cancer Society

Team Fundraising Success: Chillfire Bar & Grill and Artesa Vineyards teamed with the East Lincoln Relay for Life, Betting on a Cure Team in Denver, N.C., on Aug. 13 to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Profits went directly to “Betting on a Cure Team” and the American Cancer Society. Together, they raised $1,300.

My Sister’s House

Tennis fundraiser: A two-hour tennis lesson will be offered Sept. 27 at Sugar Creek Recreational Center, 943 W. Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte. The lessons will be 9-11 a.m. Lessons cost $25 and all money goes to pay for renovations at My Sister’s House, a women’s shelter in west Charlotte. Details: Mary Ann Harrington, 704-617-4685.

Lupus Foundation

Golf Tournament Success: The 14th annual Links for Lupus Golf Tournament took a swing against lupus and raised $37,000 to support the Lupus Foundation of America, N.C. Chapter, at the recent event in south Charlotte. Since its inception, the event has raised $456,000. Learn more at


Pints for Pencils: For blood donations made with the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas during the rest of the month, CBCC will donate school supplies to local school systems. To donate blood and support your local community, visit or call 704-972-4700 to find a blood drive near you.

Pregnancy Resource Center

Dinner and music: The Pregnancy Resource Center will hold its annual Celebrate Life Benefit Dinner featuring dinner and a concert by Matt Maher, 6 p.m. Sept. 18. Registration is required and tickets can be purchased at Cost is $50 per person and includes a three-course meal.

World Hunger

Yard sale: World Hunger is collecting items for its annual yard sale, to be held Sept. 27. Items are accepted 6-8 p.m. Fridays and 12-4 p.m. Saturdays at Huntersville First Baptist Church, 119 Old Statesville Road. Volunteers are needed to sort items. Details: 704-875-3489.

Carolina Waterfowl Rescue

Volunteer workday: Carolina Waterfowl Rescue’s monthly volunteer workdays will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 20 and Oct. 18. There are tasks for all age levels; children younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Free lunch. Bring gloves and boots if possible. Registration:

Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists

Oyster & Shrimp Fest: The Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists will hold the sixth annual Wildlife Oyster & Shrimp Fest 6-10 p.m. Sept. 20 at the new Langtree Lake Norman, 401 Langtree Road.

MS Society

An Evening with Richard Childress: The Great Carolinas chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will honor NASCAR championship team owner Richard Childress with “An Evening with Richard Childress” Sept. 23 at Bridger Field House in Winston-Salem.

Money raised will be used by the Greater Carolinas chapter to help support those affected by MS and to fund research to create an MS-free world. Tickets and sponsorships available at Seats are $150 per person or $1,500 for a table of 10.

Parade of Horses

Rosehill Stables: The Parade of Horse Breeds will be 1-4 p.m. Sept. 28 at Rosehill Stables, 6623 Prospect Road in Monroe. Volunteers are needed starting 9 a.m. to help in a variety of roles. Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church

Bake and craft sale: The women at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church will hold their 17th annual bake and craft sale 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 4 at the church, 6701 Pleasant Grove Road. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Holiday and non-seasonal items will be available, and there will be a drawing for a homemade quilt. Proceeds assist mission and outreach activities.

Riverview Presbyterian Church

Fall festival: Riverview Presbyterian Church will hold a Fall Festival noon-7 p.m. Oct. 4 at the church, 124 N. Sutton Road, Fort Mill. There will be music, games, hayrides, bake sales, food, pumpkins and more. Proceeds will benefit local missions and church improvements. Details: 803-980-0070.

Save a Life Group

Golf classic: The Save A Life Group will hold the first Save A Life Golf Classic 11 a.m. Oct. 6 at Trump National Golf Club, 120 Trump Square, Mooresville.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Leukemia cup: The fifth annual Lake Norman Leukemia Cup Regatta will be Oct. 10-11 to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Hosted by the Outrigger Yacht Club, the race is open to all ballasted mono-hulls of at least 20 feet in length: spinnaker, nonspinnaker and cruising. The first warning signal will be 9:55 a.m. Oct. 11 near Shoal Marker 0.4 NM WNW of Channel Marker 2. Learn more or register at

Easter Seals UCP
