Charlotte Latin

Scholarship award: Rachel Hargrave has won the August 2014 “GoEnnounce Yourself” Scholarship.

The senior won the award for her work with school-related updates on her GOEnnounce Student Page. The scholarship is sponsored by UPromise.

Student honors: The school has inducted Bev Earle, Jerry Faulkner, Anthony Morrow ’04, Pender Murphy ’77, Bob Patten, William Howard Pitt Jr. and Dave Thompson into its inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame.

The first class members was inducted based on their excellence in athletic achievement and for demonstration of exemplary contributions to the school’s athletic program through sportsmanship and character.

East Mecklenburg High

School choir: The chamber choir performed at the Charlotte Convention Center in September at a conference hosted by the city manager’s office.

The students also worked with a guest composer and conductor and participated in a songwriting workshop and recording sessions. The group will present a fall concert 7 p.m. Oct. 16.

Palisades Park Elementary

Dedication: The school was formally dedicated Sept. 23.

The new CMS school has an academic focus on science, technology, engineering, math and opened with an enrollment of 695. The facility features Plexiglas windows set into some walls to allow students to see the school infrastructure, in addition to television monitors displaying graphs showing water, power and gas consumption.

Charlotte Christian

Open house: The school will host the following admissions open houses: junior kindergarten and kindergarten, 7 p.m. Oct. 21 and 9:30 a.m. Oct. 22; and junior kindergarten-grade 12, 1 p.m. Nov. 15. Details: www.charlottechristian.com.

Musical performance: The school will perform Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” 7 p.m. Oct. 16-17 abd 2 p.m. Oct. 18 on campus.

Myers Park High

Theater performance: The school will present two plays, “A Game” and “Cagebirds,” Oct. 2-4.

The plays start 7 p.m. in the Auditorium. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and staff. Details: www.myersparktheatre.webs.com.

MYEP internship: The Mayor’s Youth Employment Program application process for summer internships will open mid-fall.

Community award: The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards recognizes student volunteers who have made meaningful contributions to their communities.

StreetSafe session: A StreetSafe Life safe driving experience, open to teens and parents, will be 8:45 a.m. Oct. 18 at Butler High School in Matthews. Student registration fee is $30.
