MetLife is expanding to the fifth floor of the Woodward Building in Ballantyne Corporate Park, Bissell spokeswoman Christina Thigpen has confirmed.
However, because the firm simultaneously is leaving a floor at the Richardson Building, it is not expanding total occupancy, Thigpen said.
The company, which celebrated its new U.S. retail headquarters at 11225 N. Community House Road in March, will occupy 28,421 square feet on the fifth floor, about the same space it was subleasing in the Richardson Building, Thigpen said.
The company now occupies about 427,000 square feet in the park, about what it occupied when it was in the Richardson Building, she said.
The firm occupies 15 floors in Ballantyne Corporate Park: All 10 of the Gragg Building and the first five floors in Woodward. MetLife currently is the sole Woodward tenant, Thigpen said.
To lure the New York-based insurance company, Charlotte and Mecklenburg County have approved roughly $3 million in incentives. Under state incentives, the firm could receive as much as $87.2 million over 12 years.
MetLife began moving in and hiring for the retail hub last year. The company has said putting its retail business in one location would create collaboration within the division. Employees previously had been spread nationwide.
State incentives require the company to create at least 2,098 jobs in North Carolina by Dec. 31, 2015.
