Golf tournament benefits Charlotte Christian wrestling

The first Core Wrestling/Charlotte Christian School Golf Classic was held Oct. 10 at The Divide Golf Club in Matthews.

The event benefited Charlotte Christian School’s wrestling program and Core Wrestling.

Stan Banks Jr., a two-time state wrestling champion at East Mecklenburg High and two-time NCAA All-American at North Carolina, served as chairman of the event.

The tournament featured a helicopter golf ball drop contest, where more than 500 golf balls were dropped from a helicopter. The ticket-holder whose ball ended up in the hole won $1,000.

“The money raised will help a lot of different wrestling programs that Core Wrestling and Charlotte Christian has worked so hard to establish, so we’re just happy with the overall effort,” Banks said in an email. “The event was a huge success.
