The Golf Club at Ballantyne will offer a day on the green to celebrate those who have served the country.
To celebrate Veterans Day, the club will invite veterans and active military personnel to play the club’s 18-hole course for half-price Nov. 9, said Woody Allen, director of ancillary operations at The Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge.
Allen has been with the golf club since it opened.
“It’s our way, with the Bissell company, to say, ‘Thank you for your service,’ ” he said. “Veterans can enjoy the golf course on a beautiful Sunday and let us thank them for their service contribution.”
The club has been honoring veterans with a specially priced day of play for more than five years, Allen said. Each year, the deal attracts many veterans, active-duty members and their families to the course.
“I’m proud we have had so much participation,” Allen said. “It feels good to continue it year after year.”
Allen said the club encourages family members and friends to join service members on the golf course, regardless of skill level or how often they play the sport.
“The veterans appreciate it,” he said. “It’s good to see them come out and do this.”
Veterans and active-duty service members can play the course for $39.50 on Nov. 9, half the regular $79 rate, Allen said.
Allen said the club will fly a flag to honor veterans that Sunday and thank each one personally for their sacrifice and contributions.
“The day is about giving back to the community and creating goodwill,” he said. “We personally acknowledge the veterans and thank them for their service. It’s the best thing we can do.”
The tees at the Golf Club at Ballantyne are open from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays.
Veterans are asked to provide a military ID. To reserve a tee time, call 704-248-4383. Details: www.theballantynehotel.com/golf.
