Charlotte Country Day’s Franz named state player of the year

Charlotte Country Day senior volleyball player Katharine Franz is the 2014-15 Gatorade N.C. Volleyball Player of the Year.

Franz, who is signed with Davidson, is a 6-foot middle hitter for the Buccaneers. She had 412 kills, 295 digs, 65 service aces and 47 blocks this season for Country Day, which went 44-1 and won a second straight N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 3A state title.

In the state title match against Covenant Day, Franz had 19 kills and 11 digs.

She was also named an American Volleyball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-American this year.

Franz carries a 3.65 GPA at Country Day and is the first volleyball player from the school to be named Gatorade state player of the year.

This is the second time in the past three years that a south Charlotte athlete has been named the state volleyball player of the year. Charlotte Latin’s Eve Davis won the award in 2012.
