Money Magazine has named Stallings as one of its 50 Best Places to Live.
Noted for its “old-school Southern charm” and proximity to Charlotte’s museums, food scene and performing arts centers, the article said Stallings and towns around Charlotte are “perfect nesting spots for families and individuals who want to be close to the action but still have their own space.”
Stallings Mayor Wyatt Dunn wrote in an email that upon hearing the news he wanted to share it with as many people as possible.
“I told the staff I thought we were a top five place to live!” he wrote.
According to Money Magazine, this year’s rankings focused on small cities with “great jobs, strong economies, affordable homes, excellent schools and that special something that makes it a great place to live.”
Stallings is ranked 46th on the list. Two other North Carolina cities are included: Apex is first, and Harrisburg is 41st.
The article describes Stallings’ appeal for families, including the annual Stallings Fest fall event, outdoor summer movies, outdoor concerts and activities for people of all ages, as reason for its selection.
The median home price in Stallings is about $194,000, according to the article, slightly below the national average. And the town has a high projected job-growth rate, quality schools and low crime rates, despite its proximity to an urban area.
Dunn said the town offers a small-town lifestyle with amenities nearby in Matthews and Charlotte.
“The top reasons Stallings is a great place to live in my opinion is the high quality of life with great citizens in our community,” he wrote in an email. He also mentioned the town’s good schools and churches.
“The Christian faith is strong in our community,” he wrote.
Town leaders are working on improving infrastructure and stormwater issue, including widening Old Monroe Road, improving the intersection of Potters and Pleasant Plains roads and increasing safety along the Lawyers Road corridor, Dunn wrote.
