Charlotte firefighters needed about 1 1/4 hours Monday afternoon to put out a wildfire that burned more than five acres in the University City area.
The two-alarm fire was reported about 4 p.m. in a wooded area behind the 5200 block of Kodiak Drive That is west of Interstate 485, between Rocky River and Caldwell roads.
Battalion Chief Mike Wilson told WCNC-TV, the Observer's news partner, that crews had to extend hose lines about a half-mile to deal with the blaze. Fire Capt. Mark Basnight said 45 firefighters were called to the scene.
No buildings were damaged by the blaze, which burned near a residential area.
There is no word as to the cause of the fire.
