Run or walk: North End Partners business association joins the N.C. Music Factory as a sponsor for this year's 5K Rock-'N-Run. The event will take place 8 a.m. Aug. 13 at the N.C. Music Factor, 1000 Seaboard St. There will be live music at the finish line, a play area for children and a health and wellness pavilion. Last year's event drew 500 runners and raised $4,000 for four northeast Charlotte nonprofits. Register through Aug. 5 at www.ncrockandrun.com.

Time to register

Youth soccer and football: Register your child by July 31 for Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation's soccer and flag football programs.

Soccer at Harrisburg Road Park is open to children ages 4-10. Flag football at Sugaw Creek Park is open to age 4-8. Practice begins in mid-August. The fee is $65 and includes uniforms. To register, visit charmeck.org. Under "Departments," click on the link for "Park and Recreation," or call 311.

Rezoning request

For or against: On Monday at 6 p.m., the Charlotte City Council is scheduled to consider a petition to rezone property at the corner of North Graham St. and West Sugar Creek Road.

Louis G. Ratcliffe Inc. is asking the city to change the zoning from B-2 General Business to a Mixed Use Development District. The change would make way for opening of a community theater and lounge.
