Fun and games: The University City YMCA will host a play day for active older adults from 7:45 a.m. until about 1 p.m. Tuesday, 8100 Old Mallard Creek Road.

The cost is $18 for members, $21 for program members and $25 for nonmembers. The fee includes lunch and transportation.

Research Park

Lanes closed: The intersection of Mallard Creek Road and Salome Church Road will remain closed through Saturday.

Service by Charlotte Area Transit System will be affected, but access to homes and businesses will be maintained.

Speaker series: Five business leaders will share their experiences raising early-stage funding for the companies they founded during a luncheon at noon Thursday at the Ben Craig Center, 8701 Mallard Creek Road.

Speakers for the Venture Knowledge Series will be Igor Jablokov of automated speech recognition developer Yap, Chris Halligan of media software company OtherScreen, Mike Feldman of technology company T1Visions; Alan Fitzpatrick of video solutions company MailVU; and Shafi Mustafa of technology company OverstockAds.

On Campus

Silver screening: See the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" at 5:15 p.m. todayat the Student Union movie theater, 9201 University City Blvd.

The movie, starring Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz, is free with a UNC Charlotte ID and $2 general admission. Get information at studentunion.uncc.edu.
