Reedy Creek

Mountain climbing: Reedy Creek Nature Center will host a hike to 6,684-foot Mount Mitchell. The hike, for ages 16 and older, will be 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, starting at Reedy Creek Nature Center, 2900 Rocky River Road.

Ages 16 and older can participate. The climb is moderately strenuous, with spectacular views.

Economy in view: John Connaughton, an economist in the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte, will present his quarterly forecast for the N.C. economy at a free luncheon and news conference at noon Wednesday at the Westin Charlotte, 601 S. College St.

Speaking of children: Register now to hear author Ann Gonzalez, associate chair of UNC Charlotte's Department of Language and Culture Studies, discuss her book "Resistance and Survival: Children's Narrative from Central America and the Caribbean."
