Candidates night: The Derita-Statesville Road Community Organization will host a "meet the candidates" event 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Derita Presbyterian Church, 2230 W. Sugar Creek Road. Mecklenburg Commissioners Chair Jennifer Roberts will answer questions during the first half-hour.

Know your rights: The University's observance of Constitution Day will include a discussion called "Silence is Golden - Miranda Rights at School," 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall, 9201 University City Blvd. District Court Judge Louis Trosch Jr. will be a moderator. Other panelists will be Judith Emken, senior assistant attorney for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department; Gary McFadden, a former CMPD detective; and Valerie Pearce, managing attorney for the Council for Children's Rights. Art and culture: Tickets for UNC Charlotte's College of Arts and Architecture performing arts season are on sale. Highlights include the return of the N.C.
