Volunteers Needed

Thunder Road Marathon: Volunteers are needed in over 10 areas for the Thunder Road Marathon on Charlotte Nov. 8-12.

Volunteer for the race and expo area by registering online at www.doitsports.com/volunteer2.

Teen Health Connection

Advisory Board Applications: Teen Health Connection (THC) is re-launching the Teen Advisory Board (TAB), designed to fulfill many roles including consultation on THC initiatives, outreach, special development and community service projects.

TAB memberships last for one year. Applications for the 2011-2012 academic year are due Oct. 3 by 5 p.m. To apply you must be 11-22 years old. Visit www.teenhealthconnection.org.

Second Harvest Food Bank

STOP Senior Hunger: Through Oct. 15 there will be a food drive to help support Second Harvest's STOP Senior Hunger program.

Thurgood Marshall College Fund

Awards of Excellence: The Thurgood Marshall College Fund's eighth annual "Awards of Excellence" event will take place 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at Founders Hall inside the Bank of America Building, 100 North Tryon Street.

The event will feature a strolling supper and reception followed by an awards program at Booth Playhouse beginning at 7:15 p.m. The event will honor individuals across the country based on their leadership, community involvement, professional and civic excellence and contributions to education and diversity. The TMCF has invested more than $100 million in scholarships, programmatic and capacity support and leadership development to public historically black colleges and universities. Foundation for Respect Ability

Benefit Concert: The Foundation for Respect Ability is hosting an afternoon concert with Peter Yarrow of the legendary group Peter, Paul and Mary, at the Knight Theatre 3 p.m. Oct. 30.
