Honor flight returns

On Sept. 17, five members of Black-Phillips American Legion Post 433 in Midland drove to Charlotte Douglas International Airport to greet World War II veterans returning to Charlotte from Washington, D.C.

A spokesman for the federal Transportation Security Administration said the five were among an estimated 600 people who went to greet the 117 veterans.

On their day trip, the veterans visited Arlington National Cemetery, the Tomb of the Unknowns and the National World War II Memorial.

The Honor Flight was sponsored by Rotary International District 7680.
