Youth sports: Register your child by Nov. 27 for the University City YMCA's winter basketball program.
The recreational basketball league is open to players ages 5-15. The competitive travel league is open to players ages 9-16. Players will learn teamwork, sportsmanship and fundamental skills of the game, combined with healthy competition.
Practices begin in December, and games go until mid-February.

Choir Concert: The Northwest School of the Arts Chamber Choir will join the Davidson College Concert Choir, Davidson Pro Arte Orchestra and soloists Jacqueline Culpepper and Diane Thornton in a choral concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday Nov. 21 in Duke Family Performance Hall on the Davidson campus. Library trustees sought: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education is accepting applications for members of the board of trustees of the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Contact Board Services Office at 980-343-5139 to request an application. All applications must be received by Dec. 2.
Student Hunger Drive: In this year's Charlotte Student Hunger Drive, students from 16 area high schools collected 86,023 pounds of food, worth more than $196,000, according to Natalie Jenkins, executive director of the drive. The food goes to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
The total is a 77 percent increase over last year, the drive's first.
