Youth swimming lessons: The University City YMCA offers swimming lessons for children ages 6 months to 12 years. According to the Y's website, the program uses fun methods to help kids overcome fears, build confidence in the water and develop skills that last a lifetime. Parent/child lessons are for ages 6 to 36 months; preschool lessons for ages 3 to 5 years; and youth lessons are for ages 6 to 12.
Weekday sessions meet either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Jan. 9 or 10. Friday-Saturday sessions meet either Friday or Saturday mornings.

Chamber Music Festival: Featured works will be Bach's "Goldberg Variations" and Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 2 at a concert of chamber music at 8 p.m. Jan. 20, presented by the UNC Charlotte Department of Music.
