Neighborhood conservation: Feb. 15 is the deadline to apply for grants from Power2 Live Green, the city of Charlotte's neighborhood energy challenge.

Neighborhood organizations that have been active for at least three months can apply for up to $10,000 for projects that involve alternative transportation, energy-efficient home improvements and lighting, upgrades to Energy Star-certified appliances and other projects. Emerging Student Leaders: The Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte has received a $250,000 grant from the Belk Foundation for a professional development program for undergraduate students.

The Student Center for Professional Development will open this month, helping students get professional experience to complement their academic work.
