Ashley Reynolds’ friends and family members drove up and down the roads of eastern Union and Chesterfield counties Sunday and Monday, looking for the missing mother of three after she failed to return home from a friend’s house late Saturday in Union County.
On Monday afternoon, Reynolds’ body was found -- in the wreckage of the blue Chevrolet that apparently crashed late Saturday night near Marshville.
The N.C. Highway Patrol says the wrecked car was discovered about 3:30 p.m. Monday on Austin Grove Church Road, near Forest Hills School Road. The car was found near the edge of a wooded area.
Troopers say speed was a factor in the single-vehicle crash, and that Reynolds was not wearing a seat belt.

She had been reported missing late Saturday night. Authorities say she reportedly got into an argument during a gathering at a friend’s house and left.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office and the Highway Patrol joined in the search. Troopers say some of the searchers drove past the crash scene but didn’t notice the car, several hundred feet off the road.
“Several people in the family actually did drive down the road, looking for her, and did not locate her,” Highway Patrol Sgt. J.A. Williams told NewsChannel 36, the Observer’s news partner.
