Fundraising sale: The Grove Park/Ravenwood Garden Club will have its annual yard sale Sept. 21 as the self-sustaining club’s primary fundraiser of the year. The proceeds allow the garden club to host the neighborhood’s annual garden tour. Volunteers may sign up for any of these tasks: pricing and sorting 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 18 and 20, and 1-4 p.m. Sept. 19; setting up and sales 6:30-10:30 a.m. or 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 21, or assistance with signs (putting up signs a week before the sale; removing them at the end of the sale Sept. 21). Presidential politics: The Belk College of Business’ NEXT speaker series returns Sept. 18 with an inside look at the role of analytics in the 2012 presidential election. Andrew Claster, who was deputy chief analytics officer for the 2012 Obama campaign, will discuss “The Analytics Effect” during an 8 a.m. breakfast at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte. Claster will discuss how lessons learned on the campaign trail can be used in business. Networking and registration at 7:30 a.m., breakfast and Claster’s remarks at 8 a.m. Open to the public. Blood drive: The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas will host the Chelsey Thompson student blood drive 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 9 at UNC Charlotte, 9201 University City Blvd. Donors must be at least age 16 and must weigh at least 120 pounds. Supplies of blood are running short throughout the Charlotte region. The Community Blood Center is calling on the public to donate blood as soon as possible. All blood types are needed immediately.
