Zoning open house: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Department is petitioning to have nearly 27 acres abutting Interstate 85 rezoned for residential purposes. The property, on the west corner at Mallard Creek and Salome Church roads, is vacant and is zoned as a commercial center. Rezoning petition No. 2014-019 asks the city to rezone the property to R-4, single-family residential. Claire Lyte-Graham of the planning department said the rezoning could allow any use permitted under R-4 zoning, including single-family detached homes and possibly duplexes, triplexes or quadplexes. She said no site plan is associated with the rezoning request. The property owner is Craft Holdings LLC of Monroe. An open house forum about this and other rezoning petitions will begin at 5 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 600 E. Fourth St., Lyte-Graham said. A public hearing will be Feb. 17. Details: bit.ly/1bzlar1.
