A growing trend of license plate theft in University City has area police urging residents to protect themselves.
Officers with the University City division of Charlotte-Mecklenburg police released a newsletter warning residents about the recent crime trend.
“More and more reports are being generated about license plates being stolen off of various vehicles,” officials said. “The victims’ cars are parked in businesses, driveways and/or parking lots of apartment communities.”
Regardless of where you live, any auto parts store should have inexpensive security screws for license plates, officers said, touting the locking mechanisms as “a quick and easy solution to this crime.”
