Police arrested a 27-year-old Charlotte man on Thursday in connection with shots that were fired in the Northlake Mall parking lot on Labor Day afternoon.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police charged Antonio Lamont Gaines with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Police said Gaines and the victim in the case had been in prior altercations that led to Monday’s shooting. Police have not released the victim’s name or whether the person was injured.
Police said they found evidence of the shooting in the parking lot when they responded to the scene at about 3:15 p.m., but were unable to find a suspect or victim at the time.
Additional information and evidence helped police identify the victim and Gaines. Police aren’t disclosing the information and evidence.
Officers found Gaines on Thursday in a home in the 6200 block of Pine Street, off Statesville Road in north Charlotte. He had a loaded gun beside him, police said.
Police said they also found another handgun and rifle ammunition while searching the home.
Officers also arrested Timothy Hines, 27, at the home and charged him with a probation violation and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
“Thanks to a thorough investigation by North Division Detectives and Officers, in collaboration with Northlake Mall Security, the Gang Unit and State Probation, Gaines was identified and apprehended in a timely manner,” police said in a media statement Thursday afternoon.
“The North Division would like to recognize and thank Northlake Mall and their security contractor who assisted throughout the investigation and have continued to partner with CMPD in regards to the overall security of the mall.”
