Police arrested a Charlotte man Friday in connection with Wednesday’s fatal shooting of Brittany Carelock on North Tryon Street.
Marquise Detrea Teeter, 38, was in the York County, S.C., jail awaiting extradition to Charlotte, where he will be charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said. Police said they arrested Teeter with help from Rock Hill police.
Police did not know when Teeter will be returned and are not saying what evidence led to the arrest.
Carelock, 27, died Wednesday afternoon in the 900 block of North Tryon Street, an area where drug dealers and prostitutes are known to prey on the homeless who live at a nearby men’s shelter. Police said they found Carelock dead of a gunshot wound. They believe she knew the person who shot her.
